Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen

Loose skin is a concern for most patients in their 40s or 50s, as the body produces less collagen and elastin. However, very few skin-tightening technologies can be used on areas with delicate skin, such as the eyelids, and still offer noticeable results. Whether you are looking to get a nonsurgical facelift or an alternative to eyelid surgery, we offer the Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen at Kingwood Skin Essentials. This procedure helps restore your skin quality without any incisions.

How the Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen Works

The Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen is a non-surgical procedure that delivers plasma energy into the skin without direct contact. This creates a small thermal reaction that stimulates collagen production while immediately tightening the skin. The device is versatile and can be used on various areas such as the face, neck, and eyelids.

The key mechanism of the Plaxpot™ plasma pen is sublimation. Dr. Browning holds the pen 1mm from the skin, creating a “plasma flash.” This converts the skin tissue directly from solid to gas by ionizing nitrogen and oxygen. The process creates small carbonized dots (micro-crusts) on the skin’s surface, which fall off within a few days.

Regardless of the treated area, most procedures with the Plaxpot™ pen will follow the same pattern. We cleanse and numb the skin to improve comfort, then guide the pen and create a precise micro-point grid. This ensures even distribution of the skin-tightening effect.

What Should I Expect During the Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen Recovery?

The downtime is more social than medical, but you may want to take two to three days off if you treat the eyelids. This is because you can expect symptoms such as swelling and redness, which can make the eyes feel tight and heavy. Swelling peaks around one to three days after treatment, then begins to resolve.

Most patients plan for five to 10 days of social downtime, working from home where possible. The skin may feel itchy as the tiny scabs fall off, but it is important to refrain from scratching at them to prevent scarring. Avoid strenuous exercise, sweating, and saunas for at least 48 hours, but ideally until the dots fall off.

Use gentle cleansing in the first few days as well as the healing ointments as recommended. For optimal results and to prevent hyperpigmentation, avoid direct sun exposure in the recovery phase. Use a high-factor sunblock (ideally SPF 50, but SPF 30 works too) for the next few months after the treatment.

When Will I See Results?

Most of our clients note an immediate tightening effect after Plaxpot™, as thermal contraction causes the skin fibers to shrink. However, noticeable results appear after two to four weeks, once the skin has healed sufficiently. Skin texture and tightness improve after a month, and the new collagen and elastin fibers begin to mature.

This process continues over the next six to 12 weeks as the collagen begins rebuilding the treated skin. Most of our clients at Kingwood note the following, depending on the area treated:

  • Noticeable lift of the eyelid skin
  • Firmer jawline and neck
  • Smoother lip (smoker) lines
  • Fewer fine lines and wrinkles
  • Softer acne scars
  • Reduced crepey texture

The skin-tightening effect is deep enough to last two to three years or more, depending on your skincare routine, age, and tissue quality. Strict sun protection in the long term is essential to maintain the results.

Before and After Photos

Is Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen Right for Me?

The Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen is a suitable procedure for patients in their 40s and older with mild to moderate collagen and elastin loss. This includes facial sagging, fine lines, wrinkles, and overall thinning skin. The procedure is generally suitable for those seeking a non-surgical alternative to skin tightening.

Plaxpot™ plasma pen may be a suitable choice if you experience the following:

  • Under-eye crepiness
  • Hooded upper eyelids
  • Neck laxity and fine, crepey skin
  • Jawline softening and early jowls
  • Loose skin in areas such as the elbows and knees
  • Stretch marks that remain visible with other procedures
  • Wrinkles that don’t respond to skincare or injectables
  • Acne scarring and textural irregularities

The Plaxpot™ pen might not be a suitable choice for clients prone to keloid scarring or who have an active inflammatory skin condition. Patients should have realistic expectations and commit to aftercare and sun avoidance. An appointment with our providers can help determine if you are a good candidate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatment sessions depends on your skin laxity and age. Clients with mild skin laxity see improvement after one treatment, but medium to severe laxity may need multiple appointments. We recommend around two to three treatments spaced around 10 to 12 weeks apart.

Is the Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen Safe for All Skin Tones?

The Plaxpot™ plasma can reduce pigmentation by vaporizing the superficial skin layer. This puts patients with a darker skin tone at risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We recommend this treatment for patients with lighter skin tones, usually Fitzpatrick I-III.

Is the Plaxpot™ Plasma Pen Treatment Painful?

The treatment may cause mild to moderate discomfort, although it is well tolerated by most patients. Most people feel heat and tiny zaps as the tiny burns (the plasma flash) form on the skin. We administer topical numbing cream to make the treatment more comfortable.

Are the Results from Plaxpot™ Permanent?

The results from the Plaxpot™ plasma pen are long-lasting and may be permanent, but the procedure does not stop natural aging. It’s best to schedule a maintenance session every few years to keep the results.

When Can I Wear Makeup Again?

We advise against wearing makeup in the first few days after the procedure, as bacteria can enter the injury and prolong recovery. You may start wearing makeup once the crusts fall off, which is after five to seven days.
